Is it faster than stovetop?
No, not really.
While the pressure time is set to zero minutes of pressure cook time, there is still the time required to have the pot come to pressure.
The beauty of this is that it is hands off and no need to worry about babysitting a pot.
What is zero time pressure cooking?
Zero time pressure cooking means you set your Instant Pot to zero minutes (just press the minus sign to get to 0).
The time to come to pressure is active cook time and all that frozen veggies need. You want to make sure you absolutely quick release veggies so that they don’t over cook and go mushy.
Can I make Instant Pot frozen veggies without a basket?
You don’t want to put the veggies right in the liner with the water. This will boil the veggies, and result in mushy veggies.
You don’t need the exact Instant Pot steamer basket I have, but you do need a steamer basket of some sort.
You can use a bowl, but the veggies will not cook evenly. The veggies in the middle might even still be frozen.
So, no, I am going to say not to make Instant Pot frozen veggies without a steamer basket.
Can I add more than 2 cups of frozen veggies?
Yes! You can easily increase the amount of veggies.
You do not change the water amount when you do this.
Typically, you won’t need to increase the time – unless you really load the basket up, then I would set the time to 1 minute to make sure the veggies in the middle get enough high heat.
How do you use batch cooked frozen veggies for meal prep?
I use them as a very easy way to add veggies to any meal prep.
They will last 4 days in the fridge. You would reheat them with your meal.
Ideas to make frozen veggies more flavourful
- Sprinkle with garlic salt
- Toss with parmesan cheese
- Toss with a flavoured olive oil – stick to savoury flavors
- Steam them in the Instant Pot with sprigs of fresh herbs
- Toss with garlic butter
- Tos with cooked bacon bits
Instant Pot Frozen Veggies
- 6 Quart Instant Pot
- Steamer Basket
- 2 cups frozen veggie mix (carrots, peas, corn, and green beans)
- 1 cup water
- 1 tbsp butter
- salt and pepper to taste
- Pour 1 cup of water into the Instant Pot liner.
- Place your steamer basket into the liner.
- Add the veggies to the steamer basket.
- Secure the lid, set to sealing.
- Set the Instant Pot to 0:00 minutes.
- Quick release the pressure.
- Toss the veggies with butter, salt and pepper.
